Aoshima 1/700 Japanese Navy Light Cruiser Kitakami

The Aoshima 1/700 scale model kit of the Japanese Navy Light Cruiser Kitakami offers enthusiasts a detailed representation of this historically significant vessel. Part of Aoshima's Waterline Series, this kit has been renewed with enhanced precision, featuring newly molded common outfitting parts for greater detail.

Historical Background:

The Kitakami was the fourth vessel of the Kuma-class light cruisers, ordered in 1917 and completed in April 1921 at the Sasebo Naval Arsenal. Initially armed with seven 140 mm guns in single mounts, the Kitakami underwent several modifications throughout its service. Notably, it was converted into a torpedo cruiser, equipped with an extensive array of torpedo tubes. The ship participated in significant wartime operations, including the Battle of Midway as part of the Aleutian screening force. Later in the war, after sustaining damage from a torpedo attack by the submarine HMS Templar on January 27, 1944, the Kitakami was converted to carry Kaiten human torpedoes. The vessel survived the war and was subsequently used as a tender for repatriation vessels.
